Think Discrimination is a Thing of the Past? Think Again.
Multiple news agencies are reporting about an astonishing story from Rome, New York. According to a New York State Attorney General Press Release,
the Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center discriminated against African-American employees by barring them from working in a particular unit of the nursing home. Incredibly, the home posted a sign in the unit that read “No Colored Nurses.” Purportedly, the home did so to accommodate the “discriminatory preferences of a patient.”
The Attorney General settled the investigation. As part of the settlement, the home will implement an anti-discrimination policy and will hire a consultant to train its employees.
